Firefly Airlines is spearheading the effort to provide rescue and relief flights to and from Kota Baharu as well as Kuala Terengganu as part of its contribution to channel emergency assistance to the east coast flood victims.

Its chief executive officer, Ignatius Ong, said all available seats and cargo space aboard Firefly flights to and from these two airports would be donated and used for the cause immediately.

"We call on everyone, be it government bodies, NGOs or private groups as well as organisations and the general public, to get in touch with the Firefly collection centres to find out how you can make use of this service.

"With the number of evacuees exceeding 100,000 people and counting, I cannot stress how important it is for all of us to set aside our differences, come together and unite to help our fellow Malaysians in their time of need," he said in a statement, here, today.

Ong said three collection centres had been set up and were ready to receive donations in the form of goods such as blankets, sarong, diapers, infant milk, biscuits, coffee and dry food.

The three collection centres were Firefly Biz Lounge First Floor Skypark Subang Terminal, Sultan Abdul Aziz Subang Airport in Selangor; Firefly Airport Ticketing Centre Kota Baharu, Sultan Ismail Petra Airport and Firefly Airport Ticketing Centre, Penang International Airport, he added.

The collection centres were open daily from 9 am to 5 pm.

"Firefly flies to Kota Baharu from Penang a minimum of one time daily. An extra flight to Kota Baharu is scheduled on Saturday (Dec 27) and Sunday (Dec 28), respectively, via Subang," Ong said.
