Since their entry to Malaysia in 2003, Harvey Norman has expanded its business to more than 10 outlets all over Malaysia with the latest being in Paragon Shopping Mall in Penang this month.

With its five-year expansion plan which started two years ago, Harvey Norman is now planning on building a warehouse here in the city.

“We are planning to build our own warehouse in Cyberjaya where it will also be a training ground for our staff. The warehouse is expected to be completed in two years time and the cost is about RM200 million,” said Harvey Norman Malaysia Managing Director, Angelo Augustus.

According to Angelo, the capacity of the warehouse would be triple of what they now currently have.

“We have expanded to 10 mega superstores, the latest being Paragon in Penang while the others are our headquarters in Ikano Power Centre, Mid Valley Mega Mall, Sunway Pyramid, Bukit Tinggi, Citta Mall, Setia City Mall, Paradigm Mall, Ampang Point and Queensbay Mall, Penang.

“Besides these 10 branches, we have opened two other outlets in KL Pavilion and Mont Kiara which exclusively sells electrical and IT appliances,” Angelo added.

He said this at the official opening of the 9th Malaysian International Branded Bedding Fair in Mutiara Damansara today.

The event saw a display of mattresses worth a total of RM1.5 million including the launching of the world’s most advanced bedding system known as the Sealy Posturetech Titanium Coil which cost up to more than RM90,000.

According to Harvey Norman Bedding Department General Manager, Eddy Ng, the mattress detects the shape, weight and movement of the body during sleep and then automatically adjusts to provide the correct spinal alignment.

The Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operative and Consumerism, Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah launched the event where Harvey Norman donated 200 brand new mattresses to three charity homes in Klang Valley – Beautiful Gates Foundation for spastic and wheel-chair bound inmates, Agathians Shelter for underprivileged children and Rumah Amal Cheshire Selangor.
