Motorcycle sales in Indonesia fell 1.7 percent in September from a year earlier, data from an industry association showed on Friday.

Sales were up 5.2 percent in August from a year-ago period.

Sales stood at 546,607 motorbikes in September, down from 555,820 sold a year ago. It is also lower than the 554,923 bikes sold in August.

Motorbikes are hugely popular in Southeast Asia's biggest economy and their sales are a key indicator of consumption.

Sales in September were led by Honda Motor Co Ltd, Yamaha Motor Co Ltd and Kawasaki, data showed.
