The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Fair 2015 expects to rake in RM135 million in sales and attract more than 85,000 visitors for its current edition.

Its president, Hamzah Rahmat said last year, the first Matta fair held in March had attracted 90,273 visitors while the September edition attracted 82,000.

"This March edition fair will see a total of 1,124 booths providing quality packages and services, and more than 400 booths specialising in domestic packages showcasing attractions of value for money," he said at a press conference here today.

Also present was Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron.

"As MATTA focuses in promoting domestic tourism as called upon by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, this will help many industry players who need extra boost in achieving targets due to the unfortunate incidents that took place in 2014," he told reporters after officiating the fair.

Among the exhibitors are Costa Crociere, Air Mauritius, Bangkok Airways, Korea Tourism Organisation, India Tourism, American Embassy and the Philippine Department of Tourism.

The booths were taken up by travel agents, tour operators, national tourism organisations, cruise companies and related products and services organisations.

The three-day fair at the Putra World Trade Centre is open to the public, beginning today.
