An Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) supersonic training aircraft crashed during an air acrobatic show at the Adi Sucipto Airport in Jogjakarta today, killing two pilots.

Local media quoted TNI AU Information Division chief Marsma Dwi Badarmanto as saying the T-50 aircraft Golden Eagle crashed while executing a low dive in the Gebyar Dirgantara Show about 10am local time.

He confirmed the pilots in the aircraft, belonging to TNI AU, were killed.

A report by local television Metronews quoted a witness named Wina as saying she saw a cloud of smoke emitted by the aircraft before it dived sharply and crashed.

The air show was cancelled following the crash and the authorities have yet to issue a statement on the incident.

Meanwhile in another development, efforts to search and rescue 122 passengers and crew of a ferry, Marina, reported to have sank in the Celebes yesterday was still ongoing.

To date, the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) has not issued any statement on locating the victims of the mishap.

According to a Basarnas report, the ferry was confirmed to have sank in the Siwa waters in the Celebes in heavy and stormy seas at 3pm yesterday.

Local media quoted South Celebes Basarnas chief, Roky Asikin as saying the fibreglass ferry was heading for Siwa, Wajo district from Kolaka, South East Celebes.

He said all the passengers and crew were believed to have gone down with the ferry, but this could not be confirmed as yet.
