Aidilfitri is the day when Muslim whole over the world including in Malaysia celebrate over the successful completion of the Holy Month of Ramadan al – Mubarak.

Aidilftri is a special day given by Allah SWT to all the believers in order for them to celebrate with full joy, with the feeling of humbleness and gratitude towards their Creator.

For Malaysians, Aidilfitri is one of the biggest holiday celebrations. This is the time when many Muslims (and even non-Muslims) return to their hometown (balik kampung) to be with their loved one.

Aidilfitri celebration is also the time to ask for forgiveness and to forgive others. It is also the time for reconciliation and renewal of relationships with others.

The joyful moment for Aidilfitri festive along with long holidays that come afterwards should be fully utilised by many to strengthen their family, relative and friendship ties.

As the main purpose of the Aidilfitri celebrations is about forgiveness and to bring reconciliation as well as closer relationship between families, relative and friends, we must try our best to ensure Aidilfitri will not be tainted with matters which can easily destroy the main purpose of the celebrations.

Among the issues that can do so is politics. Unlike other matters, politics can be a hot button topic, and even a sensitive one during gatherings with family, relatives and friends as everyone has their own opinion when it comes to politics.

Due to the differences of opinion, misunderstanding can easily happen, which could lead to conflict and even bitterness. All these hostility can destroy the main purpose of the Aidilfitri celebrations that is to bring people closer and to put all feelings of resentment far behind.

No doubt, politics can be a very interesting topic of discussion but it is better avoided when we are celebrating this festive season with our loved ones, to ensure the festive celebrations remain joyful for us and for everyone around us.

Instead, focus on topics which that can preserve the unity and bonding among ourselves during this joyful Aidilfitri period.
