Warner Bros. have confirmed that the upcoming Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper movie "A Star Is Born" will be released next year, reports Variety.

The movie, which marks Cooper's directorial debut, is to be released Sept 28, 2018,

Based on William Wellman's 1937 film starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, the film tells the story of a fading movie star who helps an aspiring actress while his own career spirals downward.

Another version of the movie was released in 1954, starring James Mason and Judy Garland in the main roles, and again in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.

Cooper came onto the project after actively seeking his first directing job, and been encouraged by Clint Eastwood. After the pair worked together on "American Sniper" Eastwood attempted to get the film made for years with Cooper starring. Eastwood eventually left the project, but suggesting Cooper take on the role of director himself.

Gaga was confirmed for the film in June. She has forged a successful acting career alongside her musical work, including an acclaimed performance in "American Horror Story: Hotel," which earned her a Golden Globe for best actress in a miniseries.
