This year's Ramadan is special for television personality 'Mat Dan', an Englishman who speaks the Terengganu dialect fluently, as it is his first Ramadan as a husband.

Mat Dan, whose Muslim name is Kareef Danial, 26, married Terengganu girl, Nadifa Adnan, 28, of Chendering, on March 28 this year.

For this Ramadan, he has reduced his television hosting activity and instead, opened a food stall, specialising in fried beehoon, kuih ropa and brownies, at the Car Food Sahur in Pantai Batu Buruk.

Mat Dan, when met by Bernama at the stall, said his decision to open the stall was because he was attracted to the concept promoted by the organiser whereby participating traders had to contribute certain per cent of their sale for charity.

'It's also a strategy for my wife and I to promote and find market for our home-made brownies', he said.

On how he feels to celebrate Aidilfitri as a husband for the first time, Mat Dan said he was grateful to have a partner to celebrate the occasion since converting to Islam seven years ago.

'It makes the Syawal morning more meaningful. InsyaAllah, I'll be celebrating Hari Raya with my in-laws in Kuala Terengganu, and what makes me more anxious is to taste my wife's beef rendang.

'The beef rendang will be special because she is going to cook it with full of love,' he said in a jest, adding that he had prepared four pairs of baju Raya this year.
