Today is the 100th day since the Movement Control Order (MCO) came into force and various measures have been taken to break the COVID-19 infection chain in the country.

This includes the ability of the Ministry of Health to conduct 36,812 RT-PCR laboratory tests as compared to just 6,210 at the beginning of the MCO implementation period.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement that MOH currently has 6,397 beds for COVID-19.

"Although there are 442 ICU beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients, they have now begun to be used for other cases.

"The same applies to ventilators as there are only two COVID-19 cases that use ventilators.

"The number of active cases has now dropped to just 208 cases and the death rate has also dropped to 1.4 per cent of the total number of cases. This indicates that Malaysia is in a phase of recovery," he said.

In order for the country to fully recover and succeed in the phase of the Recovery MCO, Dr Noor Hisham stressed that the community should play a bigger role by fully adhering to the advice provided and complying with the standard operating procedures (SOP).

"The success in levelling the curve of COVID-19 and also reducing the spread of the COVID-19 case within the community is a result of the collective action of all parties, including the community and the public.

"Malaysia should be ready for a new normal and normal life," he said.
