There will be water supply disruption for 12 hours in Butterworth and Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) areas near here due to the installation of a pressure reducing valve (PRV) on the pipeline at Jalan Pekan Darat in SPU.

Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said the disruption, to take place from 10pm on Sept 17 to 10am on Sept 18, would involve about 46,000 people, who would experience no water supply, while another 52,000 people would experience low water pressure.

"In recent years, PBAPP has been pumping treated water at higher pressure from the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant in SPU, via two major 1,350mm pipelines, to meet increasing water demand in Seberang Perai and on Penang Island.

"This is in line with PBAPP's vision to meet all of Penang's water supply needs, 24/7, as well as the Penang state government's 'no water rationing' policy," he said in a statement, here today.

Jaseni said the areas that would have no water supply during the period included Jalan Gelung Bubu, Kampung Tok Bidan, Jalan Permatang Tok Gelam, Kampung Haji Murshid, Kampung Gelang Bubu, Kampung Paya Permatang Tok Gelam and Permatang Benuan in SPU, while in Butterworth, they are Taman Perkasa, Kampung Paya Terbakar, Taman Selayang Utama, Taman Selayang Permai, Taman Selayang Oren, Tanah Lot Kampung Benggali, Sungai Lokan, Permatang Che Tak, Jalan Permatang Tok Jaya and Taman Mahsuri.

The areas that will have low water pressure included Pasir Gebu, Permatang Gawa, Jalan Kuala Muda, Taman Kuala Muda, Bakau Tua, Pulau Mertajam, Permatang Keriang, Kota Aur, Permatang Bendahari, Jalan Rantau Panjang, Kampung Padang Tembusu, Jalan Bawah Penaga, Kampung Lembah Penaga and Jalan Lahar Minyak in SPU, while in Butterworth, they are Jalan Sheikh Madar, Teluk Air Tawar, Taman Sejahtera, Jalan Tengku Putra, Jalan Bagan Belat, Jalan Padang Benggali, Taman Air Tawar Indah, Taman KGN Teluk Air Tawar, Jalan Teluk Air Tawar and Titi Mukim Teluk Air Tawar, he said.

He said PBAPP regretted any inconvenience caused and would like to advise all affected consumers to store sufficient water for use from 10pm on Sunday to 10am on Monday. - BERNAMA
