Fifty-nine flood victims from 16 families are still housed at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Jong Evacuation Centre, Teluk Intan, near here, since Friday.

Bandar Hilir Civil Defence Department (JPAM) officer Mohd Fadzly Mohamad Zawawi said those affected were from Lorong Mesra in Batu 7, Changkat Jong.

"The water level in Sungai Bidor is currently at 3.16 metres compared with the danger level of 3.5 metres. The weather this afternoon is currently cloudy," he told Bernama here today, adding that the houses of the victims were still flooded.

"Lorong Mesra is still flooded and water is not flowing out. We will see if the weather improves so that flood waters will subside," he said.

Mohd Fadzly said surveillance was still being carried out in flooded areas, especially since heavy rain has been forecast throughout Perak this afternoon.

He said floods which occurred in Changkat Jong on Friday when Sungai Bidor overflowed, following heavy rain.

"During the flood on Friday, the river water was above the danger level of 3.68 metres. There was unusually heavy rain in the Batang Padang district and the water gushed through Sungai Bidor to Hilir Perak," he said.

He added that none of the flood victims who were evacuated thus far, were students sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination.

"The welfare of the victims has been taken care of by the Welfare Services Department while the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) also cook together with local residents at the evacuation centre," he said.
