The four-year-old girl, who was allegedly abused by her mother's boyfriend, is showing positive development and reported to be in stable condition, said Kedah Health director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail.

He said the girl had been admitted at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH).

"She is reported in good condition and has began talking. She is also taking her food orally now," he said when contacted by Bernama.

Last Wednesday, a police team found the decomposing body of a two-year-old boy wrapped in blanket and placed in a fish box at the Paya Nahu flat unit in Sungai Petani.

The discovery was made after the victim's 26-year-old mother informed the police when her four-year-old daughter was sent to a hospital for treatment for alleged abuse.

Meanwhile, in PENDANG, Kedah executive council member, Datuk Suraya Yaacob said the Social Welfare Department was prepared to hand over the four-year-old girl to her grandmother if the woman could take care of the child.

If possible, the Social Welfare Department do not want to take over guardianship of the child as she still has her next-of-kin and family, she added.

Suraya, who is the State Women development, Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, Entrepreneur Development and Social Welfare Committee chairman told this to reporters when met after launching the state-level Family and Community Engagement (FACE) programme in Felda Sungai Tiang today. --Bernama
