The Alwi Mosque is planning to hold an open day for the non-Muslim community, says Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainal Abidin.

Mohd Asri, who is the mosque advisor, said its management hoped such opportunity would build closer relations between Muslims and those of other faiths.

He said this at his weekly lecture at the mosque last night.

"Hundreds of Muslims come to the mosque weekly to follow my lecture, but how many of them are helping to explain more about the religion to non-Muslims?," he asked.

Mohd Asri said maybe, there were some non-Muslims who wanted to come to the mosque but did not dare because they were worried they would not be welcome.

He urged Muslims to change the old perception of prohibiting non-Muslims from visiting mosques.

He stressed it was not wrong for non-Muslims to visit a mosque as long as they complied with the rules, including dress code.
