An angler drowned after the boat and five other anglers were in capsized at the Semenyih Dam in Selangor last night.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said the department received a distress call at 11.48pm.

"We immediately deployed 10 personnel from the Semenyih Fire and Rescue Station to the location to mount a search and rescue (SAR) operation for the 28-year-old victim identified as Amer Nur Rashid Abdul Rashid," he said when contacted here today.

He said the body of the victim, an officer at Sepang Police's Special Branch, was later found by the SAR team.

Mohd Sani said the other anglers, aged between 21 and 38, had swum to shore to safety.

The boat was carrying the anglers from Pulau Pasir Putih across the dam, he said, adding that the victim's body was sent to the Kajang Hospital.
