The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has approved the appointment of MACC Deputy Commissioner (Operations), Datuk Seri Azam Baki, as the new MACC chief commissioner effective today.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Azam's appointment was in accordance with subsection 5 (1) of Act 694 of the MACC 2009 which also approved Latheefa Koya's application to resign.

"Pursuant to subsection 5 (3) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (Act 694), His Majesty has approved the application of Latheefa Beebi Koya to shorten her contract of service as the chief commissioner of the MACC effective March 9, 2020, "the statement added

The government also thanked Latheefa for her service to the country during her tenure as the MACC chief commissioner.
