The body of a man believed to have drowned near a fishing jetty in Jalan Kg Baru, Lumut has been found by the Search and Rescue (SAR) team on Friday.

The victim S.Nehra Deva, 31 from Ayer Tawar was believed to have jumped into the river to fish before he went missing, after being washed away by heavy current.

Sitiawan Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Zaki Zainol said his team received a call about the incident late Thursday night.

“The victim was found 100 metres from the jetty where he was fishing around 8.24 am on Friday. The depth of the river at that time was 10 metres high.

“Initially, we sought the help of K9 unit’s to locate the victim,however, did not proceed as he was found nearby,” he said when contacted by Astro AWANI on Saturday morning.

Mohd Zaki said his team had used ‘surface-searching’ technique in the river banks to identify the victim’s body.

He added, a patrol post was set up to gather information on the victim and the whole operation was aided by six personnel from PDRM and JPAM.

“The body was then handed to the police for further investigations concluding the entire operation,” he added.
