A 16-year- old disabled boy drowned at Pantai Lido here in late Sunday evening while on an outing with his brother.

Johor Baharu Civil Defence Department (JPAM)officer Leftenan Muda Mohd Aziz Juperi said the victim, who lives in Taman Perling here, was walking in front of the Johor Islamic Religious Department office there at about 2pm when he skidded off a cliff at the beach.

He said the department was alerted at 9.48pm and despatched two boats and 16 men for search and rescue (SAR) mission who were assisted by seven firemen from Johor Baharu as well as policeman.

However, the SAR was discontinued late at night due to the dark conditions and low tide and resumed at 8.30am Tuesday.

His body was founded near the scene about 10am today.
