It is better if the G25 group of prominent Malays be abolished, Kedah Mufti Datuk Syeikh Muhamad Baderudin Ahmad.

In fact, he said G25 members should repent and return to the right path of Islam based on Al-Quran and Sunnah after issuing a statement that was clearly contravened Allah's law.

G25 was recently reported as suggesting, among others, that the Islamic authorities should stop punishing Muslims who committed close proximity (khalwat).

Its spokesperson, Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin, was reported as saying that Islam was a religion of justice, mercy and compassion and that intruding on another individual's privacy was against it.

For that, the Mufti said although it involved individual's privacy, the offence did not involve only those who committed it, but also their families and the society.

"When a man and a woman committed close proximity, it will lead to immoral activity and what if it leads to a birth an illegitimate child? What will happen to the child with the illegitimate status?" he told Bernama in response to the issue.
