Pahang UMNO Youth wants Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi to apologise to the family of Datuk Dr Haron Din and Muslims in the country over his alleged sensitive remarks on the demise of the spiritual leader of PAS.

Its chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah said the alleged remarks had offended Muslims.

"If indeed Jeff Ooi is a gentleman claiming to fight for equality of races as touted by his party, he should apologise to Haron Din's family and all Muslims within the next 24 hours," he said in a statement here yesterday.

He said that action should be taken against Ooi if no apology was forthcoming.

"The DAP leader's actions of insulting Islam and Malay leaders without any fear is a reflection of the kind of leadership which would be shown if they (DAP) were to take over the country," he added.

Ooi was reported as having said "Adios Harun Din. Let there be peace" on his Twitter account on Friday, triggering protests from various quarters, including netizens, as it was considered a rude act.

Haron, 76, died at 10.10am (Malaysian time) on Friday at the Stanford University Hospital in San Francisco, United States, due to heart complications. - BERNAMA
