After the PAS's Private Member's Bill on Hudud was moved up in the Parliament’s Order Paper, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang asked for the debate on the bill to be postponed to the next Parliament sitting.

Datuk Seri Azalina Othman has earlier moved a motion to bring forward debate on the Bill which was initially listed as the last topic in the Order Paper today.

"I request for the motion to be postponed to the next Parliament sitting," Abdul Hadi told the Parliament today.

The proposal to amend the Federal Constitution to enable the implementation of hudud in Kelantan has reappeared in the Parliament order paper today.

This is the third time the proposal appeared in Parliament order paper, the first being in April and again in June last year.

The Syariah Criminal Code II 1993, better known as the hudud, qisas and takzir laws, was not implemented for more than 20 years due to legal constraints.

Besides the private Bill, the Kelantan government had also formed a state-level technical committee over a year ago and sent six representatives to sit on the national-level technical committee to study the implementation of hudud.

Earlier, PAS Youth leader Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said the party will motion for another private member's Bill on hudud if it fails to be debated in the Parliament today.
