The explosion caused panic among passers-by who ran for safety, thinking it was a bomb.
However, the police later confirmed that the explosion was due to a firecracker being placed in a flower vase.
Ipoh deputy police chief Supt Anuar Othman said they received a call at 11.30am and as soon as they arrived at the scene, they found parts of the vase shattered all over the place.
Personnel from the Forensic Department and the police bomb disposal unit were also rushed to the scene after receiving the call.
The police are still tracking the suspect who lit the large scale firecracker and fled after it exploded.
