The Johor state government has declared Sunday as a special state public holiday after the Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) team won the Malaysia Cup after a 25-year wait.

The announcement was made by the Johor State Secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani in a statement tonight after the match which took place at the Shah Alam Stadium in Selangor, which ended with a Johor victory of 2-0 over Kedah.

"This is a historic success after 25 years of Johor not winning the Malaysia Cup and this special holiday announcement is the state government's appreciation to the people of Johor," he said in a statement.

He added that the special public holiday announcement was made in accordance to the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar's earlier announcement in the event that the JDT team emerged champions.

It was also in line with the provisions of the powers conferred under Section 9 (1) of the Public Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369).
