Following the flash floods that hit several parts of Puchong yesterday, Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) clarified the incident should not be attributed solely to the on-going construction of the LRT Line Extension Project (LEP) in Puchong.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department reported an abnormal rainfall in the area Monday evening was believed to be the cause of the flash floods, which affected several locations in Puchong including around IOI Mall, Setia Walk, and the entrance to Bandar Puteri.

“It was the first major flash floods in the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) area since Prasarana started construction of the LEP the past two years. Further, there was no excavation and backfilling work conducted in the area the past two weeks,” said Azhar Ghazali, Senior Manager, Communications and Media Affairs of Prasarana.

“We have provided adequate drainage within our working area, but what happened yesterday was abnormal,” he said.

In the meantime, Prasarana contractors are helping the local authority to straighten some of the downstream earth drains to ensure better flow of rainwater should similar situation occurs in the near future.
