The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has expressed condolences to the family of DPP Anthony Kevin Morais who has been found murdered.

It said in a statement that the death of Morais, who was the deputy chief of the Appellate and Trial Division in the Attorney-General's Chambers, was a great loss to law enforcement institutions in the country.

"The staff of MACC express their sympathies over the fate that had befallen the late Kevin Morais, who had served the MACC with dedication and excellence for 10 years before returning to the Attorney-General's Chambers in July 2014, and we hope his family will remain strong during this difficult time," it said.

The MACC thanked the police who had successfully uncovered the mysterious disappearance of Morais and hoped that those responsible for the despicable act would be brought to justice.

Morais' body was found stuffed in a cement-filled drum in Subang Jaya early today after one of several suspects in the case led police to the scene.

Morais went missing on Sept 4 while driving to work in Putrajaya from his condominium in Menara Duta, Kuala Lumpur.

Former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail, who came to pay condolences to Morais' family, said it was a sad day because the country had lost a good officer like Morais who had always performed his duty well.

"He has dealt with important cases, that goes without saying because he was appointed as the deputy head of the Appellate and Trial Division in the Attorney-General's Chambers," he told reporters.

Meanwhile, quiet prevailed at Morais' condominium which had been sealed by the police for the purpose of investigation.

A colleague, Farhan Read, expressed shock upon learning that Morais had been found dead in tragic circumstances.

He said he had known Morais for eight years as they had worked as DPPs.

"He was most committed to his work," he said when contacted by Bernama.

Farhan said Morais' death would be deeply felt by his colleagues.
