A Malaysian student who was involved in an accident two weeks ago, died on Sunday at a hospital in Miri, the Foreign Ministry said.

Ummi Nadiah Filzah Daud died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Miri Hospital, Alexandria University at around 8pm after suffering internal damage to the lungs following a road accident in Egypt two weeks ago.

The Embassy of Malaysia in Cairo, Datuk Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari is said to be assisting the victim’s family on the matter by returning the body of the deceased to Malaysia as requested by the parents.

According to the Ministry, the parents of the deceased had decided for the burial to be at Bandar Tasik Putri, Rawang, Selangor.

The Ministry also conveyed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the late Ummi’s family.

The accident at Iskandariah, Egypt two weeks ago reportedly happened when a van transporting Ummi and her friends to the Borg El Arab International Airport, slammed the back of a lorry and went out of control.

Due to the hard impact, all six students were thrown out of the van, where five of them suffered injuries were injured but the driver was unhurt.

The students who are from the Faculty of Dentistry at Alexandria University, were on their way to the airport to return to Malaysia for their semester break.
