Rasheeda Ali, daughter of world boxing legend Muhamad Ali last night receives a special appreciation certificate from the Malaysian government in conjunction with 'Reviving The Islamic Spirit' programme organised by the Malaysian Islamic Missionary Foundation (Yadim) at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here.

The appreciation certificate was presented by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom in recognition of the service and contributions of her late father, Muhamad Ali.

Jamil Khir in his speech said the demise of Muhamad Ali during the month of Ramadan last year had left a major legacy and inspiration to the people in the world.

"I still remember when he was fighting Joe Bugner in 1975 in Malaysia when the spectators were mesmerized by the actions of the two boxers.

"But now after an analysis, the people knew his boxing prowess was holding steadfast to his principle that his greatness including his statements were all gifted by Allah," he said.

The two-day conference starting Saturday also featured leading U.S. missionary Imam Zaid Shakir, Oxford University lecturer Datuk Dr. Afifi al-Akiti and North America Islamic Association vice-president Imam Siraj Wahhaj. -- Bernama
