Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is to make a working visit to Brunei Darussalam on Sunday to attend the 17th Annual Leaders Consultation with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah (pic).

Before settling down to their talks, Najib and the sultan are scheduled to open the Friendship Bridge that connects Limbang in Sarawak and Temburong in Brunei Darussalam in a historic event, said a Wisma Putra statement Friday.

"Construction of the bridge began in May 2012. It is another historic milestone in the excellent relations between Malaysia and Brunei," it said.

The statement said the consultation would also serve as the occasion for the signing of two documents, on cooperation in hydrocarbons and cooperatives development, which will be witnessed by the two leaders.

Najib will be accompanied on the one-day visit by his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman and several other Cabinet ministers as well as Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

On Sunday night, Najib is scheduled to hold a four-eyed meeting with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, an occasion seen as the best opportunity for the two leaders to follow up on developments on the implementation of the Exchange of Letters, besides discussing new cooperation initiatives, the statement said.

The two leaders were also expected to discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest, it added.

The last annual consultation between the Najib and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah was held in Putrajaya on Sept 4 last year.
