No Malaysian students were affected in the explosion during the concert at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England yesterday, said the Higher Education Ministry (KPT).

The ministry in a statement today said moments after the bomb went off, Education Malaysia United Kingdom & Ireland (EMUKE) made an announcement on the incident to student unions in the city and its surrounding areas via Facebook and WhatsApp and was informed that no Malaysian students were involved.

"The move was taken to confirm that no Malaysian students were at the incident location," said the ministry.

According to KPT, there are 1,303 Malaysian students in Manchester who are studying at The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and University of Salford.

"EMUKE will continue to monitor and will report on developments from time to time. All students have been reminded to be careful and contact EMUKE for any assistance," it said.

Initial media reports mentioned that at least 19 people were killed while 50 others were injured in the bomb blast at the concert of American singer, Ariana Grande.

Based on reports, the explosion took place when the singer was performing on stage and she was reported to be safe.
