The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) expects one million visitors to attend the event 'KenDurian' (Durian Party) to be held in conjunction with Durian Fiesta 2016 for three days beginning July 29.

FAMA chairman Tan Sri Badruddin Amiruldin said the event will take place simultaneously in three states, namely at the Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) in Gopeng, Perak, at Masjid Daerah Barat Daya, Balik Pulau in Penang and Dataran Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur.

"Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase various types of durians during the three days like the Musang King, kampung durians and durian clones," he said at a Fiesta Durian 2016 press conference at Menara Kuala Lumpur here, on Friday.

In addition, FAMA will organise various activities such as the Malaysia International Durian Hunt, Durian Fun Run, Asian Durian Convention, Durian Cyclethon and Durian Master Chef and sales of a variety of fruits and vegetables.

Badruddin said the highlight of the event will be 'The Longest Durian Crepe' which will be held in Balik Pulau.

The Durian Fiesta will be held throughout the country from July 1 to the end of September to promote local fruits such as mangosteen and rambutan and to attract foreign tourists.

FAMA will provide 3,500 tonnes of durians during the fiesta worth RM20 million.

Meanwhile, 32 farmers' markets will operate across the country on a daily basis during the month of Ramadan to give consumers the option to obtain goods at a price which is five to 20 per cent cheaper than the market price.

Badruddin said 73 types of goods will be sold at the farmers' markets such as meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, fruit, cakes as well as Small and Medium Industries (SMIs) products.

"Goods that are not available in the regular farmers' market will be available at Ramadan farmers' markets," he told reporters after inspecting the Pre-Ramadan Special Sales Programme in the Putrajaya Farmers Market later.
