Otai Reformis, a non-governmental organisation, today dismissed an allegation it had provoked the commotion at Petaling Street during the 'Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu' rally on Sept 16.

Spokesman Shaiful Ariffin said 500 representatives of the NGO were in the Petaling Street area during the commotion, but merely to monitor the rally and not as participants.

"We were under the control of the police during the rally and the police advised us not to get involved. As such, it is impossible for us to have provoked the commotion," he told reporters here.

Last Thursday, chairman of the Malaysian Malay NGOs Federation Datuk Jamal Md Yunos, who was involved in the organisation of the rally, said he did not rule out the possibility that Otai Reformis had provoked the commotion at Petaling Street.
