The suspect in an outrage of modesty case who was in a coma after being assaulted over the incident in the toilet of a building housing computer equipment and cellphone outlets in Jalan Putra here on Sunday is confirmed to have died today.

Kota Setar District Police chief, ACP Mohd Rozi Jidin said the suspect died at 12.30 pm while undergoing treatment at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) after he was assaulted on Sunday evening.

"We detained all five men and a woman, in their 20s, around here for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said in a statement here today.

He said they would be remanded from today, adding that the suspects were identified based on the pictures which became viral on social site.

"We urged those involved in the incident to quickly surrender themselves," he said.

In the incident on May 29, at 4 pm, the 31-year-old suspect was assaulted by members of the public after he was believed to have outraged the modesty of a woman in the toilet of the premises.

As a result of the assault, the suspect sustained serious injuries on the face, ears, body and legs.

The suspect was handed over to the police and taken to the Kota Setar District Office before being sent to HSB for further treatment.

The incident made the victim''s sister unhappy and she lodged a report at the Langgar Police Station after watching the video recording which went viral on the social site showing her brother being assaulted.
