The decision to replace Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin with Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as Deputy Prime Minister was one of the toughest that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had to make.

The premier said however, it had to be done so that his team of Cabinet ministers would remain strong and move together as one.

"My decision to replace Muhyiddin and drop four ministers and a deputy minister as well as changing the portfolios of some others were made after giving much consideration to the politics and interest of the administration.

"This was to ensure my administration remains committed and focused towards nation-building as promised by the Barisan Nasional government to the rakyat during the 13th General Election.

"For this purpose, the Cabinet ministers need to work together as a team in any situation, execute the country's development agenda and manage national issues that arise so that actions taken are effective," said Najib in his speech after announcing the new Cabinet line-up at the Prime Minister's Office here today.

Najib, who is also UMNO chairman, said he can accept differing views and criticisms as part of the decision-making process.

However, as Cabinet members, any difference of opinion should not be made in an open forum that could jeopardise the people's perception of the government and country, he added.
