The Selangor government has denied issuing a permit to any party in organising the liquor themed event Oktoberfest 2014.

Local Government Committee chairman Ean Yong Hian Wah in a statement today said the issuance of permit for such event is under the jurisdiction of local authorities.

"The organisers may apply to local authorities and approval is subject to certain conditions including installing signboards that says Malays/Muslims are forbidden to enter, ensure that no under aged persons enter, get approval from the police and must be held indoors."

Oktoberfest, organised by a liquor manufacturer began on Sept 24 at several locations including a hotel in Subang and Kuala Lumpur.

The highlight of the festival will be held from Friday to Sunday at a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam Mayor Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan said the installation of the Oktoberfest billboard was done without the approval of Shah Alam City Council (MBSA).

The billboard installed was not owned by MBSA and action has been taken against the advertising company, he said in a statement today.
