Seven non-governmental organisations (NGOs) Wednesday lodged a police report urging action against Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua for having allegedly tweeted seditious remarks on Monday.

They comprised the Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah (MJMM); Gerak Kerja Gabungan Ayahanda Selangor (GEGAS); Pertubuhan Permuafakatan Majlis Ayahanda Malaysia (PERMAS); Ikatan Usahawan Kecil dan Sederhana Malaysia (IKHLAS); Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (IRIMM); Majlis Bendahara and Akhlak Rahsia Cekal (ARC).

MJMM president Datuk Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah, speaking on behalf of all the NGOs, said Pua's Twitter post was extremely humiliating and rude towards the ruling government.

"We hope the police will take stern action against the individual concerned," he told reporters after the police report was lodged at the Dang Wangi Police district headquarters, here on Wednesday.

Pua had allegedly tweeted on Monday with regard to the arrest of Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar for investigation into two cases under the Sedition Act.

On the same day, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted that the police would call Pua to explain his action.

Meanwhile, Dang Wangi Police chief ACP Zainol Samah, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed having received the report by the NGOs.
