The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah today said that the practice of 'tauhid' (attributing Oneness to Allah) should be a policy and principle of a country because it allows the values of justice and brotherhood to be fully appreciated.

He said by holding on to the practice, people would realise that they were Allah's servants, so there should not be any nature of supremacy, arrogance and haughtiness.

"By putting ourselves as servants of Allah, this equality will instil the spirit of brotherhood which is full of love," he said at the state-level Maal Hijrah 1438H/ 2016M celebration here today.

Also present were Raja Permaisuri of Perak Tuanku Zara Salim and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

Sultan Nazrin Shah said all the blessings bestowed to the people and the country should be appreciated, accompanied by adherence to Islamic laws.

"If we lose our way and are in difficulty, go back to the right path and live by the teachings of the Quran and Prophet.

"Pray to Allah that power to rule is entrusted to His trustworthy and honest servants, so that the Muslims can live prosperously and peacefully," he said.

On the hijrah, the Sultan said it was the basis to generate passion to sacrifice.

"Hijrah has managed to change the situation, from destitution to leisure, from weakness to strength, from chaos to peace," said Sultan Nazrin Shah.

At the event, former assistant mufti at the office of the Mufti of Perak.

Muhamed Abdullah, was named Tokoh Maal Hijrah 2016 while former Federal Territory mufti Datuk Wan Zahidi Wan Teh was awarded the Ar Ridzuan Special Award.

They each received RM10,000, a medal, a plaque and a certificate.
