Three family members were killed while six others were injured after the car they were travelling in skidded when one of the tyres burst at the 155km Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Kuantan, near Lanchang, here, yesterday.

Temerloh district police chief ACP Zundin Mahmod said those killed in the 7.20pm accident yesterday, were the wife of the driver Permai Jaafar, 55, daughter-in-law Norrahimah Mustafa, 29, and Permai's three-year-old grandson Mohd Yusof Afif.

Meanwhile, Permai's husband, Mohd Nordin Hassan, 48, who was driving the Toyota Avanza was reportedly in critical condition while their daughter Normanisyam and four grandchildren Mohd Fitri Danial, Norfarhana Adriana, Mohd Yusuf Haras and Noraliya Ashikin were injured in the accident.

Another daughter of Mohd Nordin, Normasyitah escaped injury.

"Initial investigations revealed that the victim's car was traveling from Kuantan to Felda Lakum when one of its tyres burst and caused the car to skid, spin and flip several times.

"The car eventually rammed into a signboard before falling into a ditch and the three victims were believed to have been thrown out of the mangled car and died at the scene," he told reporters here today.

He said all the victims and those injured were sent to the Temerloh Hospital for post-mortem and treatment and the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
