Members of the Traffic Police Department of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM ) have been urged to enhance ties with the community to ensure more effective dissemination of information.

Director of Traffic Police Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT), Bukit Aman, DCP Datuk Mahamad Akhir Darus said this was necessary as ties between traffic police and the public is 'awkward'.

"Usually, members of the public run scared of traffic police for fear of being summoned or feel that we only want to find fault with motorists.

"Both parties have the responsibility to reduce the rate of road accidents in the country," he told Bernama after leading ''Konvoi Kembara Harumanis JSPT Bukit Aman'' to Perlis in Kampung Abi Selatan, here today.

The convoy comprising 30 members from Bukit Aman and Kuala Lumpur Traffic Police Station aims to improve efficiency in handling traffic and smooth functioning of police escorts for dignitaries (VVIP).

The three-day convoy beginning yesterday comprised more than 22 members of Kuala Lumpur Kepala Kuasa Motorcycle Club (KKMG).
