It is indeed a special way for a lecturer and his wife to start their journey to wedded bliss onboard a slow-moving intercity train before holding a reception on the platform of Kuala Lumpur station yesterday.

Mohd Izwan Mohd Zaki, 29, of Universiti Teknologi Mara, and his wife, Maizatul Akmam Muhamad Takir, 23, both agreed that it was an unforgettable experience for them, especially after their wedding planner transformed two KTM intercity train coaches into possibly the best wedding venue around.

The whole wedding process was also completed according to the traditional Malay customs, including in the exchange of wedding gifts and the ‘bersanding’ ceremony after the bride and groom walked in procession and sat on the decorated dais heralded by the beats of kompang.

“We’re so excited to have this golden opportunity to tie the knot onboard a train like this,” Maizatul Akmam said.

Meanwhile, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) Senior Marketing Manager KTMB) Mohd Noordin Kimi said the wedding package was part of KTMB’s efforts to promote its services.

“It is hoped that the traditional wedding package will attract local and foreign tourists in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

“KTMB welcomes couples who want to have an unforgettable wedding day to try our ‘Bring Back Romance To The Train’ package to experience its uniqueness,” he said.

The package, which was launched early this year, is available at a minimum cost of RM15,000, including food catering and dais decoration, he added.
