Tanjung Malim UMNO division chief, Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib was confident that the RM2.6 billion political donation deposited into Datuk Seri Najib Razak's account has been spent to ensure that the party runs smooth.

Mohd Khusairi said, the figure was also too small compared with Najib's commitment in managing the various aspects of governance.

"I am confident that the RM2.6 billion donation received by Najib has been spent.

"As the chairman of a component party for the ruling government, Najib has a very huge commitment to ensure that BN can run smoothly, including during the previous general election (GE).

"In fact, the donation of money that wasn't just for GE alone. There are many other duties and responsibilities for Najib as the Prime Minister and UMNO President, including corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes," he said when contacted by Astro Awani on Saturday.

Khusairi was commenting on the Tan Sri Muhyiddin's urge against Najib to explain certain issues that were raised including the whereabouts of the balance of the RM2.6 billion of political donation channelled into his personal account.

Muhyiddin said the move should be done before it tarnishes the image of the government and the country.

Meanwhile, Khusairi said, financial issue should not be discussed openly in public.

"It should not be discussed in public. Muhyiddin can ask that to Najib in private, not in the open or in the presence of party members in a meeting.

"In terms of tradition, too, a lesser leader should not asked financial matters to his chief. If we look in the past, the president has his own fund.

"We in UMNO had never before asked or disputed about the sources of political funding obtained by the president. Similarly, the opposition also had never questioned the source of funds from their leaders," he added.
