"That's their decision and in politics there is always betrayal and we cannot escape this reality."

That was the disappointment of Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir when asked on the actions of four state assemblymen from the Kedah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) who had supported the formation of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government after losing confidence in his leadership.

According to the Deputy President of Bersatu, their actions were unexpected as they had previously not shown any signs that they would cooperate with two other PKR assemblymen who had expressed their support for PN.

He explained that given the state of things in facing the COVID-19 issue, this was not the right time for such things to happen.

"It is normal how would one feel to be betrayed by friends... It has happened before this at the Federal level, so it is now at the state level.

"So it seems that this betrayal season has been around since 2020 many times, this year is not a good year for the country as we are busy with COVID, the month of Ramadan, so why should such actions be taken as we focus on the people?

"Yesterday I chaired a special JKKM meeting to address the issue of COVID-19. At the same time the opposition held meetings and held a press conference on their actions to overthrow the government, so who cares for the people?

"I do not think it is appropriate to say that they are not greedy but if they are not greedy, why not wait for the election," Mukhriz, who is also Jerlun assemblyman said at a press conference after chairing the EXCO Meeting at Wisma Darul Aman on Wednesday.

According to Mukhriz, three of the representatives of the people of Kedah who turned their support to the PN government were State Government Exco members.

However, he did not plan to take action against them.

The three were the State Women, Family and Community Development Committee Chairman, Halimaton Saadiah Saad, Communication & Multimedia Information and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) Chairman Mohd Firdaus Ahmad and Chairman of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, Transport and Primary Industry Committee, Azman Nasrudin.
