PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has adopted an open stance on whether or not he would be picked to be the deputy prime minister in the new Cabinet.

The Marang MP said PAS would leave the matter to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to make a decision.

Abdul Hadi said PAS did not impose any conditions or demanded for him to be made deputy prime minister in the new government.

“I am open to the Prime Minister and do not make it compulsory for me to be picked (as Deputy Prime Minister).

“Even If I am not picked, it is OK, I will go back to be a fisherman,” he said in jest in a press conference at the Rusila Mosque today.

Commenting further, Abdul Hadi said it would not matter if he was not appointed as the Deputy Prime Minister as he only wanted to work for the country.

“The ones who proposed me are ordinary people. (But) it is not for ordinary people to nominate (the Deputy Prime Minister). Usually, it is the Prime Minister who decides,” he said.

Commenting on the formation of the Cabinet, Abdul Hadi explained that PAS had merely stated the concept of administration that it wanted while the rest is up to Muhyiddin's discretion.

“PAS is leaving it to the wisdom of the Prime Minister. (However) of course the number of seats of the component parties in Perikatan Nasional would be taken into account besides Sabah and Sarawak who are not in the coalition.

“Besides that, parties representing non-Muslims in the Perikatan Nasional would also be taken into account though their number is small,” he added.

Abdul Hadi, however, stressed that the members of the Cabinet must also come from among professionals.
