Several Barisan Nasional Assemblymen today gathered at a hotel here for an urgent meeting to discuss about the UMNO crisis in the state.

It is learnt that 17 out of the 21 assemblymen were present at the discussion.

Among those present were Kulim MCA assemblymen, Chua Tiong Ghee, Padang Terap UMNO chief, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and its deputy, Datuk Ghazali Ibrahim and Alor Setar UMNO deputy chief, Yusof Ismail.

Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir, who is also Ayer Hitam assemblymen and three other executive councillors – believed to be Mukhriz’s supporters -- were not present. They are Jitra exco, Datuk Aminuddin Omar, Sungai Tiang exco, Datuk Suraya Yaacob and Bandar Baharu exco, Datuk Norsabrina Mohd Noor.

Their absence reaffirmed the 'mystery' surrounding the meeting the Kedah Council of Regency and BN state assemblymen at Wisma Darul Aman on Monday which indicated Mukhriz failed to clinch majority support from BN exco members.

The highlight of the meeting, however remained unknown.
