Umno will conduct a key performance index (KPI) evaluation at all levels to know the party's actual progress at year's end, said its secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

He said the evaluation was also to get an actual picture of Umno's direction as well as to upgrade it, especially to face the current era.

"The evaluation will be done by a third party by year's end, involving communication between the state, division and branch level apart from the party's journey, activities and so forth," he told reporters after presenting the Umno KPI briefing at the state Umno building here today.

Also present were Umno Welfare Bureau chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.

He said the action was taken for the good of the party in the face of changes taking place globally while the thinking of the people and party members had also changed.

"This evaluation is not to punish certain people but it is actually one way for us to give our views and bring benefits to the party," he said.

Early this year Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who is also Umno president, had approved KPI to ensure all work could be implemented more actively and systematically with every supreme council member to be given responsibilities to monitor divisional KPI while divisional heads were tasked to monitor branch KPI.

Tengku Adnan said all Umno divisions and branches at the state level were urged to set up bureaus similar to the supreme council level.
