The 'Sayang Malaysia, Hapuskan Kleptokrasi' (Love Malaysia, Eradicate Kleptocracy) organised by Pakatan Harapan at Padang Timur yesterday clearly failed to achieve its target when the number of participants fell far below the 100,000 mark.

The rally which began at 4 pm until late night was dull and attended by 25,000 participants, as announced by the organisers. However according to Selangor Police Chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor, there were only 4,000 participants at the rally.

He added that the situation at the rally was under control.

Among the opposition leaders who were present were chairman of Pakatan Harapan Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Pakatan Harapan president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and Parti Pribumi Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The opposition leaders only harped on old issues on the alleged embezzlement of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds and the goods and services tax.

Bernama also saw children who had been brought by their parents to the rally.

Last Wednesday, the Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun did not allow the gathering to be held on the basis of security.
