Interim Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s proposal to form a Unity Government is because he does not want to become a prime minister who depends on political parties and to govern the country effectively without political interference.

Media and Communications Advisor to Dr Mahathir, Datuk Abdul Kadir Jasin said the move was not intended to make him a dictator or an autocrat.

“Why did Dr Mahathir choose this method (Unity Government) which also reduces his support from other representatives from other political parties?

“The answer is that he no longer wants or feel capable to become a prime minister that depends on political parties,” he said in a blog post: The Scribe’A Kadir Jasin, on Friday.

He added that the method could make Malaysia more democratic as the government is exposed and monitored from political parties.

“To put it simply, Dr Mahathir’s proposal is his last attempt to fulfill the aspiration to save Malaysia which he set in 2016.

Earlier, Dr Mahathir who is the Chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu (BERSATU) had suggested that the government should not be partisan towards any party, instead giving full priority to the interest of the country.
