While others have been pre-occupied with preparing for their school holiday excursions this last few weeks, a group of Kuala Lumpur proud teenagers have been sacrificing self, school and family by putting in hours of body and gravity defying routines in training every day.

Well all the bruises, bumps, sweat, tears and even blood has been more than worth it as the results of the MSSM Rhythmic Gymnastics 2013 championship has proven so far.

Today (Wednesday) is the third day of the four day championship currently on-going at the National Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil and the young rhythmic gymnasts from the city schools have made a major sweep of the gold medals available so far.

The KL girls have amassed 11 out of 18 gold medals available. Their nemesis and strongest challenger, Selangor is in a distant second with 6 gold medals. Melaka is further back in third place currently with one gold.

KL gymnasts’ high level of athletic flexibility, grace of execution and mastery of routines’ difficulties had seen them giving top notch performance in this sport where stamina and strength of acrobatic flexibility is elegantly performed by grace of execution.

They have been especially dominating in the Junior and Pre-junior categories where all their gold medals had been gained. They swept all gold medals in Pre-Junior and only dropped one for Junior category.
Selangor only dominated in the Senior category where they took five of the six gold medals.

The fourth and last day tomorrow will see the girls going all out to compete for the remaining gold medals in what is expected to be a fiercely contested group exercises final rounds.

The competition is open for the public to watch and will start from 9am at Gymnasium 1, National Sports Complex, Bukit Jalil.
