Malaysian mixed martial arts (MMA) sensation Ev Ting didn’t fare well in his pursuit to defeat Japanese legend Shinya Aoki, here last night.

Ting was submitted by Aoki in a title eliminator at ONE Championship’s Kingdom Of Heroes, that provided his opponent a strong case for a shot at the ONE Lightweight World Championship belt.

At the start of the first round, Aoki immediately looked for a takedown and managed to effortlessly bring Ting to the ground.

On the floor, the Japanese smoothly passed Ting’s guard and locked him in a deep arm triangle to put the Malaysian to sleep, clinching the victory in just 57 seconds.

Meanwhile, Ting in his Facebook post thanked everyone for their support, and apologised for not being able to take home the win.

“Sorry team went for a nap the first round, no excuses, maybe was not as good as I thought, back to the drawing boards.

“Much respect and best wishes to Shinya hope you get your title back. Onwards and forwards. A wise man once said "Only the fallen can rise”,” he wrote.

Ting, 29, holds a professional record of 16-5 and defeated two opponents this year — one in Yangon, Myanmar and another in Macau, China.
