The Negeri Sembilan government will ensure that all areas in the state have access to 3G broadband (high-speed) internet services by 2020

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the expansion of broadband internet coverage will attract more foreign investors to the state.

"I hope that focus is given to Malaysia Vision Valley (MVV) as it will lure international industry players to come here.

"I do not want them to come here find that the internet connection is slow as this will cool their interest," he said when answering to a question from state assemblyman Mohd Razi Mohd Ali (BN-Sungai Lui) in the state assembly, here today.

Negeri's access to 2G services has reached 97 per cent, 3G has reached 92 per cent while 4G has reached only 48 percent as access in some areas has not been upgraded.

Mohamad said the government will build more 1Malaysia Internet Centres (PI1M) in rural areas so that the local community get easy access to internet services.

"From 2008 to October this year, a total of 44 PI1M have been built and operated while five others are under construction.

"The choice of location is based on certain criteria and guidelines including the electricity and water supply, the availability of internet and areas of public interest."

The decision also considered several factors including the needs of the local community, population distribution, suitability of location, basic infrastructure and floor space. -- Bernama
