Sabah continued to record the highest number of new COVID-19 infections after 64 of the total 82 cases in the country were reported in the state today.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 82 cases, 79 were local transmissions while the other three were import cases, bringing the case tally in the country to 10,769 with 133 deaths.
Of the 79 local transmissions, 53 involved Malaysians while 26 more were foreigners, he said.
“As for the new cases in Sabah, 33 were from the Benteng LD cluster, 25 from the Bangau-Bangau cluster, three were symptomatic screenings, one was at the international entry point, one influenza-like illness (ILI) case at the Tawau health clinic and one screening case at the Likas Women’s and Children’s hospital,” he said in a statement today.
The other local transmissions involved three cases in Negeri Sembilan, two of whom had returned from a high-risk area (Sabah) and an exit point screening case involving a foreigner and three cases in Kuala Lumpur, all of whom had returned from Sabah.
Selangor and Terengganu each reported two local transmissions while Pahang, Johor, Melaka, Sarawak and Labuan recorded one case each.
Dr Noor Hisham, meanwhile, said the three imported cases involved individuals who returned from Yemen, Bangladesh and the Philippines.
Also, there were 89 recoveries today, while eight cases are being treated in the intensive care unit with four requiring ventilator support, he said.
No deaths were reported today.
As for Sabah clusters, Dr Noor Hisham said the Benteng LD cluster recorded another 33 cases which brought the total number of cases to 776 while Bangau Bangau reported 25 more infections to bring its total to 159 cases.
