KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) presented three crucial factors that involved the importance of achieving herd immunity, strong government and economic exit plan in the fight against COVID-19, during its component party presidents' audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today.

In a joint statement issued after the audience via video conferencing and led by GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg here, the state's ruling coalition said the vaccination programme in Sarawak would be accelerated and completed by August in order to achieve herd immunity.

"The presence of a strong and stable government (is required) to ensure COVID-19 programme and economy implementation are well-grounded and the implementation of a post-COVID-19 Economic Exit Plan," the statement said.

The statement signed by the president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing who also stated their agreement with Abang Johari, who is Chief Minister, for highlighting the crucial factors to His Majesty.

"We fully agree on the three factors in the fight against COVID-19 and the conduct of the economy that was presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong during the session," they added.
